Moodle 2.0 Released with Integration and Web 2.0 Functionality

Dec 1, 2010

The Moodle community formally released the Moodle 2.0 Learning Management System (LMS) after two years of development. Moodle is an electronic learning platform that is used by over a million teachers, with more than 38 million users worldwide.

The latest release, which was officially launched last week, adds many new capabilities, along with improvements to the core functionality of the LMS. New features include the ability for users to create what Moodle refers to as community hubs, which are searchable directories of courses, along with support for standards-based web services, prerequisites and conditions for completion of a given course.

Integration with third-party and external tools is also a highlight of this release, with support for plagiarism detection tools such as Turnitin, content repositories via plugins, the ability to add files from external stores via AJAX, and more.
