Mobile internet users accounted for 6.8% of all website visits in the United States during the month of August, and two thirds of that traffic was from internet-capable phones, with the rest attributed to tablets. Worldwide, mobile traffic made up three percent of all website traffic in 2010, but is predicted to reach 15% by 2015.
That being the case, website designers must take those visitors into account while they are designing websites. The use of Adobe Flash, once very popular among designers, has taken a back seat to emerging technologies such as HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, technologies which are functional on most platforms and devices.
There are many approaches to mobile website development. One can create two separate websites, one for mobile and one for desktop users. Or you could use CSS to define the site for mobile users–one can even use conditional CSS to show a different look and layout for users of different devices.
