As many individuals are preparing for a long-term career in mobile device app development, they may want to keep in mind that mobile development skills alone are not enough. Along with mobile development skills, a decent level of expertise in server-side programming is a must.
The co-founder and CEO of Orange & Bronze, Calen Legaspi, discussed the issue, stating that software developers shouldn’t be too quick to dive into the mobile device development arena without learning the required skills first.
Additional skills that would benefit a mobile developer include JavaScript and HTML5, as they can be extended to mobile app development as well as web apps. As Legaspi put it, “Check out PhoneGap, which is a platform that allows you to create mobile applications in HTML5 and JavaScript, then deployed as native applications on Android, iOS, Blackberry, Windows Phone 7, Symbian and Samsung Bada.”
