Microsoft Showcases Windows Phone 7 and Silverlight 4

This week Microsoft showed off its Windows Phone 7 and Silverlight 4 capabilities at the Mix10 conference. Windows Phone 7 utilizes Silverlight technology along with the XNA gaming platform for application development.


Microsoft’s Visual Studio and Expression Blend are being touted respectively as the development and design tools for the Phone 7 OS, which includes graphical capabilities similar to Apple’s iPhone.


Scott Guthrie, corporate VP for the .NET developer platform at Microsoft stated “I’m pleased to announce that the Windows Phone 7 developer tools are now available for anyone to download on the Web.” The developer tools are available for download at Microsoft’s Windows Phone Web page, and include Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone, Windows 7 Series Add-in for Visual Studio, Windows Phone 7 Series emulator and XNA Game Studio 4.0.
