Microsoft is rolling out beta versions of its Edge browser for iOS and Android. The company says that its main reason for creating the new mobile apps is to improve Windows 10’s “Continue on PC” feature. “By far, the majority of our Windows 10 users have iOS and Android phones,” said Joe Belfiore, vice president of Windows experience at Microsoft. “But there’s no good system to unify PCs with these phones. These two (Edge for iOS and Android) apps will knit all this together for all our customers.”
Interestingly, the new Edge apps will not use the EdgeHTML rendering engine. Instead, the iOS app will use Webkit, and the Android app will use Chromium. For now, the apps are available only in US English.
