Many Web Developers Moot on iPad Launch

Apr 6, 2010

While many developers worked late hours to ready their websites for the launch of Apple’s iPad, not all developers had to bother. Many sites face challenges that can’t be overcome easily, such as lack of Flash support, and others just don’t work with the iPad’s web browser.

With an installed userbase of only 300,000, the release of the iPad won’t even be visible to most web users. While it may be prudent to be ready for the inevitable, many developers found few reasons to rush their sites. In fact, the only real reasons for being “iPad-ready” are bragging rights, a spot on Apple’s “iPad ready” website list, and advertising money–and most sites were unlikely to make the cut for those ad dollars, if they weren’t already working with advertisers pre-launch.

Other developers have their own reasons for not making their sites iPad-friendly, but those reasons are not very iPad-friendly to begin with.
