LinkedIn Creates Open Source “WhereHows” Discovery Portal

WhereHows is now available on Github under the Apache 2.0 license, representing an immediate win for companies who are encountering data discovery and lineage problems as the query huge data sets. Now they no longer have a need to build their own solutions, because there’s one available for free. We can be sure that LinkedIn isn’t open sourcing WhereHows and simply walking away. No, they plan to broaden its metadata coverage by integrating with more and more data systems including Kafka and Samza as well as data lifecycle management and provisioning systems such as Gobblin and Nuage for enrichment of metadata.
