The recent rollback of privacy rules affecting Internet service providers (ISPs) has carriers scrambling to reassure customers. “We do not sell our broadband customers’ individual Web browsing history,” blogged Comcast chief privacy officer Gerard Lewis. “We did not do it before the FCC’s rules were adopted, and we have no plans to do so.”
Similarly, Verizon, AT&T and Charter also posted blogs explaining that they only use Web browsing data to personalize advertising and that they don’t sell Web browsing data. “We had the same protections in place the day before the Congressional resolution was passed, and we will have the same protections the day after President Trump signs the [resolution] into law,” wrote AT&T’s public policy chief, Bob Quinn.
