The World Wide Consortium (W3C) recently updated HTML5’s MathML standard, which allows developers to render mathematical notations on web pages. The latest updates allow browsers to display basic math symbols in English as well as other languages.
The goal of the W3C is to incorporate the new version of MathML into the full feature-set of the emerging HTML5 specification, which currently includes Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG).
The new math standards include basic math symbols including those for multiplication, long division, subtraction, and the symbols for carries and borrows addition. By using the new math markup, developers will able able to add the symbols to web pages rather than relying on images of the symbols or formulas.
