HTML 5 and Flash Come Together at Web 2.0 Expo

Sep 29, 2010

While Apple may not have too many kind words for Adobe these days, Adobe’s Flash is beginning to converge with HTML 5 in both functionality and developer support. This, according to a designer who spoke at the Web 2.0 Expo in New York City yesterday.

Eric Meyer, founder of Cleveland-based Complex Spiral Consulting, said that both Flash and HTML 5 aim to bring ubiquitous interactivity to websites. Speaking about the apparent war between Adobe and Apple, he stated that “It feels like a cold war, but they’re really not that different.”

Although Flash may not be as stable as HTML 5, it’s currently a richer development environment for interactive apps, Meyer believes. He also feels that it’s rapidly changing, stating that “the Web stack [HTML 5, JavaScript and CSS] is progressing much faster than Flash did ten years ago.”
