Google has announced that its Safe Browsing tool for the Chrome, Firefox and Safari browsers now protects more than 3 billion devices “from badness on the Internet.” That’s a billion more devices than in 2016. Safe Browsing technology is also integrated into Google Play Protect and Gmail. In addition, Google noted, “Safe Browsing is also used widely by web developers and app developers (including Snapchat), who integrate our protections by checking URLs before they’re presented to their users.”
The Safe Browsing anti-phishing tool has been around since 2007, but Google says it has made many updates to modernize the software over the years. For example, the latest version is optimized for mobile and uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to help protect users.
