Google’s Chrome Web Store Launching Soon

Dec 3, 2010

With all the talk about mobile apps and HTML5, the opening of Google’s Chrome Web Store is of interest both to developers and end users. Similar to Apple’s App Store, the Chrome Web Store will enable Chrome users to locate, install and purchase web apps.

Much of the discussion is focused on the Chrome 8 web browser, which is the mechanism with which Chrome Web Store apps will work. When users open up a new tab on the Chrome browser, an icon is already there to take them to the Chrome Store.

Initially it was thought that Google would be opening the Chrome Web Store in October, but the target is now in sight. The store will offer three types of apps: installable websites, themes and extensions.
