Google Tells Developers: No More Translate API

Google recently announced on its Google Code Blog that it is ceasing development on seven of its APIs, including Code Search, Finance, Wave and completely stopping Google Translate API, along with 11 other APIs, discontinuing their use by developers.

According to Google, they removed the Translate API due to some unspecified abuse by users, stating that “Due to the substantial economic burden caused by extensive abuse, the number of requests you may make per day will be limited and the API will be shut off completely on December 1, 2011.”

They didn’t seem overly happy about the decision to kill Translate, announcing that “Deprecating the Translate API was the hardest choice for us to make — we’re excited about the global web, and about helping developers and webmasters anywhere reach audiences everywhere.”
