Citing unnamed sources, Reuters is reporting that Ajit Pai, chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, met with major telecommunications trade groups to discuss rolling back net neutrality laws. Pai reportedly wants to replace the current regulations with a system where service providers would voluntarily agree to open Internet principles.
The sources said that Pai plans to release his proposal as soon as late April. He has previously expressed opposition to the current net neutrality rules but said he believes “in a free and open internet and the only question is what regulatory framework best secures that.”
Some Web developers have expressed concerns that they could lose access to Internet traffic without the protections of net neutrality.
