Equifax Website Vulnerability Leads to Data Breach Affecting 143 Million People

Sep 8, 2017

Credit report provider Equifax has revealed that attackers breached the defenses on its website and stole data for 143 million people in the United States. That’s about 44 percent of the total US population. The hackers made off with names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and in some cases, driver license numbers, credit card numbers and documents disputing credit report entries.

Equifax has not provided information about what type of Web vulnerability led to the attack.

The company has experienced other data breaches in the past. One exposed personal information about several famous people, including Jay Z and Vice President Joe Biden.
