Internet Explorer continues to evolve with many new HTML5 features, but its the removal of certain features that has web developers concerned. IE10 will come without support for conditional statements and XML data islands, and changes the behaviour of specific elements.
Tony Ross, Microsoft’s IE lead, discussed the changes, stating that “The Web is better when developers can use the same markup and same code across different browsers with the same results. The second platform preview of IE10 makes progress in this area by fully supporting the HTML5 parsing algorithm.”
Developers are concerned because conditional comments are used to change the display so that it works with different browsers. If a user visits a site using an iPhone, for instance, the conditional statement is ignored by all but the iPhone browser.
