While the debate still rages, more web developers are working on, or plan to be developing applications for the iPhone than any other platforms. Results from an Ovum survey of 217 mobile developers found iPhone leads the pack, with BlackBerry and Windows Phone OS development not far behind.
Although a different survey from AdMob suggested a move towards Google’s Android platform, the Ovum results reported some surprisingly different results. in the Ovum survey, BlackBerry and Windows Phone OS were more popular than Android or Nokia’s Symbian OS.
Interestingly enough, the top three mobile application platforms were cross-platform solutions, including Java ME, mobile browsers and standard web browsers. More than 80% of developers are developing for such platforms, with Qualcomm’s BREW and Adobe’s Flash coming in next.
