The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a resolution which overturned Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) Web privacy rules. The Senate had already approved the legislation, and President Trump is expected to sign it.
The rules, which would have gone into effect later this year, required ISPs to get customers’ permission before selling information, including their browsing history, to third parties. It also required ISPs to protect data from hackers and notify customers of any breaches.
Consumers will still be able to opt out of having their browser history available for sale, but it will be their responsibility to inform the ISP of their wishes.
