Bootcamp Offers Web Development Training to Low-Income DC Residents

Through a partnership with an organization called Opportunity@Work, a coding bootcamp called General Assembly is providing Web development training to low-income residents of Washington, D.C. The program will provide funding for 10-15 students to attend General Assembly’s 14-week Web development course. During that time, they will also receive $2,000 per month in living expenses. After they graduate and find a job, students will pay back the fees through an income-sharing agreement.

The program is “specifically for students who are underrepresented in the tech community,” said General Assembly Regional Director Shanaz Chowdhery.

If the pilot program goes well, General Assembly plans to expand it in other parts of the country.
