Chimp Studios this week announced that its App Scanner iOS developer tool is now available for free. The App Scanner tool mimics Apple’s own application review process to see if an application uses a private API, something that Apple will not allow.
The company planned to release the App Scanner through the Mac App Store, but Apple rejected the app, stating legal concerns. App Scanner developer Andrew Schenk retorted that “It is a bit disappointing that in the 3 years that the iOS SDK has been available to third party developers, Apple hasn’t provided any kind of pre-check tool.”
The most recent version of App Scanner includes a command line interface that developers are able to integrate into their app build process, allowing them to submit their app to the App Store without fear of rejection from the use of a private API.
