The Tomcat developer community has this week announced the release of Tomcat 7.0.6. Tomcat is an open source Java servlet container, and this is the first stable release of Tomcat 7.
Tomcat is not a full application server, but it does include the functionality that is described in the Java Enterprise Edition Web profile specifications. It also supports version 3.0 of the Servlet API along with version 2.2 of JavaServer Pages.
Developers are excited about the use of Servlet 3.0, which will add new capabilities to Tomcat. Configuration management for web applications has also been improved.
