And the Web Developer’s Web Browser Is???

Apr 26, 2010

10 years ago web developers had little choice when it came to web browsers–IE and Netscape were the cream of the crop. Fast forward 5 years and Firefox came into the scene with debugging tools and the rise of Web 2.0 applications.

Among the choices facing developers today:

  • Firefox with an abundance of tools
  • Safari and Chrome have a webkit inspector and some great extensions
  • Opera features DragonFly, a JavaScript console, along with some web developer widgets
  • MSIE 8 provides developers tools and add-ons for coding assistance

Which is the most popular browser for web developers? Firefox still reigns, but Chrome is slowly catching up. Others love the Opera browser, while yet others swear by MSIE when developing corporate intranet apps. The verdict is still out, and the browser wars rage on, even for web developers.
