Amazon to Enter the App Store Arena with Android Appstore

Jan 6, 2011

Android programmers will be very interested to know that Amazon.com today invited them to submit Android apps that will be for sale through the company’s own app store, which will be called the Amazon Appstore.

The size and scope of Amazon.com is foretelling; Amazon Appstore will have a much larger impact than smaller app stores such as AppBrain, MobiHand and others that are viewed as an alternative to Google’s own Android Market.

That said, developers who wish to sell their apps through Amazon Appstore will have to jump through a few more hoops. Faster hardware and software updates for the Android OS and Android devices mean that developers will have to be on their toes. Also, Amazon will set the actual price of the applications, hopefully based on the developer’s suggested “list price.”
