Although Adobe Flash has definitely taken a hit from HTML5, the internet’s latest darling technology, Adobe has still been actively improving the Flash player. This week they announced that the final release of Adobe Flash Player 11 and Air 3 will occur in early October.
This is a major update for the Adobe Flash Player, and includes Stage 3D, a new hardware-accelerated 3D rendering engine that is supposedly 1,000 times faster than the previous release, Flash Player 10. According to Adobe, Flash Player 11 is able to “animate millions of objects with smooth 60 frames per second” which will make games possible with the same quality as those played on gaming consoles such as the Xbox.
This release will also support native 64-bit web browser optimization for the Windows, OS X and Linux OSes. Too little too late? With Microsoft announcing that its Windows 8 Metro browser will not support any plug-ins, and Apple banning Flash from its devices, Adobe may be better off focusing on HTML5 itself.
