Don’t Let a New Website Design Ruin Your SEO Efforts

Apr 11, 2011

If you have worked to get your search engine rankings higher and have considered a website redesign, be sure to carry your SEO practices over to your site as it goes through the redesign. If you don’t, you could lose the search engine ranking you have worked so hard to achieve.

Many businesses have worked hard to get their websites online, and then put substantial effort into their site to get their search engine rankings to the top, only to redesign their website down the road, not thinking about SEO during the process. When visitors (and sales) fell off the chart, they are often astounded to find that their developer didn’t carry over their SEO practices to the newly redesigned website.

Everything counts! URL changes, section name changes, domain names and subdomains, keyword and description metatags, use of keywords within titles and content, links to and from other sites, redirects–all of these count and factor into your search engine ranks. When you are ready to redesign your website, be sure to keep all of the work you have previously done for SEO or your nice, fresh looking site may not have any visitors to appreciate it.
