Chinese Web Barons Sit Atop List of Nation's Wealthiest
The Hurun Research Institute has released its annual ranking of the richest people in China, and many of the individuals on the list are associated with big websites. In second place on the list was Pony Ma of Web and technology company Tencent, which owns WeChat, Tencent Music, Riot Games and WeBank, as well as many other Web properties. He edged out Jack Ma from ecommerce and cloud computing giant Alibaba. That company did very well this year, as 43 people on the list are either from that Alibaba or its affiliate Ant Financial.
In order to make the list, people needed a net worth of US$300 million or more, and this year, it included 2,130 people.
