Last Google Announcement of the Week: Google TV Is Alive

By HTMLGoodies Staff

With all the other announcements this week at Google I/O 2010, many have been waiting with baited breath for some word about Google TV. Today they finally got their wishes, as Google announced that not only is the Android-based platform alive, they just signed on DISH Network, Intel, Sony, and Logitech as partners.

And it's official--Google TV devices will use an Intel Atom CE4100 "system-on-a-chip" processor and will work with any cable or satellite provider. Users of the devices will be able to purchase a separate Google TV set-top box or a new TV that ships with Google TV technology.

Of interest to web developers, Google TV will feature the Chrome browser and will include support for Flash 10.1. The technology will also come out of the box with support for Amazon Video on Demand, YouTube, and Netflix. Applications from the Android Marketplace will feature apps specifically designed for a large-screen environment.
