This week Gate One version 0.9 was released as an open source SSH terminal emulator for web browsers which support HTML5. The initial public release, which is still in beta, uses JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS for the client-side portion of the app.

The Gate One SSH app supports HTTP over SSL, and facilitates secure communications from the client browser to the web server, and uses authentification services such as Kerberos. Its internal plug-in system can be developed using Python, JavaScript and CSS.

Plug-ins are currently available for SSH client connections, recordings and playback of sessions and a bookmark manager which allows users to store terminal sessions within the browser. Gate One can be downloaded for free from GitHub, and is provided under the AGPLv3 license.
