An article in The New York Times is shining a spotlight in the recent surge in coding bootcamps going out of business. The market once had more than 90 companies offering to teach students Web development and programming skills, but several, including prominent names like Dev Bootcamp and The Iron Yard, are closing their doors. According to the article, "Many boot camps have not evolved beyond courses in basic web development, but companies are now often looking for more advanced coding skills."
Several of the bootcamps say that their business model was not sustainable. On average, a bootcamp course lasts 14 weeks and costs $11,400.
Analysts say that the bootcamps that survive will likely be those with diverse course offerings and strong ties to employers.
