Microsoft Office 15 To Utilize HTML5 and JavaScript

By HTMLGoodies Staff

Microsoft has made it obvious that they want to encourage the use of HTML5 and JavaScript by developers who are targeting Microsoft users. This week, however, they announced that they are using the technologies themselves in Microsoft Office 15.

Instead of directing developers to use tools such as Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and Visual Studio Tools for Office, they will be telling them to use HTML5 and JavaScript-based Microsoft Office development tools to target both Office and Office 365.
A lot can be told from a job listing, as a recent post from Microsoft pointed out that "Integration of JavaScript/HTML5 will enable developers to create rich applications that span clients and server, integrate with Office 365, enhance the SharePoint experience, and unlock new scenarios that unleash the great potential that lies in the combination of Office and the cloud."
