Mobile Apps Becoming More Popular Than Websites

By HTMLGoodies Staff

According to a report from mobile analytics specialists Zokem, mobile applications are starting to become more popular than mobile websites. The study shows that native apps, including social networking, multimedia and maps, now make up 50% of all mobile data by volume.

The report studied more than 10,000 smartphone users, and included 6.5 million smartphone app usage sessions over 16 countries during 2009 and 2010.

Facebook's native app is used by 12% of users, with each user averaging 188 minutes per month on the social networking site. The web browser is still the most popular applications, but it is still a small share of smartphone usage overall. Other popular smartphone activities include text messaging, voice, camera, video and music playback.
