Google Drops Support for Google Wave

After a short trial period, Google announced this week that it would be shutting down its Google Wave, a web-based program which enables users to share files and collaborate online in real time. Wave was announced at last year’s Google I/O, where it was made available to developers.

In a statement from Google, the company said that they had “set a high bar for what was possible in a Web browser. Wave has not seen the user adoption we would have liked.” When it was announced, developers at Google I/O were excited to be a part of the next Wave in Google development.

Google will still maintain the Google Wave site through the end of the year, and the technology itself will eventually be used in other Google projects, as parts of the code are available as open source software.
