Python 2.7 Almost Ready for Prime Time

The Python programming language is still around, and the latest version, Python 2.7, is almost ready for general availability. The final release version is expected to be available July 3rd, after an additional release candidate is offered to developers.

Steve Holden, chairman of the Python Software Foundation, was excited to announce the upcoming release, stating “Yes, 2.7 represents the last of the 2.x series at least as far as the development team is concerned. We anticipate a long period of end-of-life support – most likely at least five years but certainly beyond the normal two years.”

Although not as topical lately, Python has been a regular in web developer’s toolboxes. A 3.x version exists, as developers continue to improve the language, making changes that are more substantial than typical upgrades would allow.
