Adobe AIR Comes To Mobile Devices

This week Adobe announced the latest release of its AIR runtime. This release enables Flash and web applications to run outside of a mobile device’s web browser.

Many announcements have come forth from the Mobile World Congress this week in Barcelona, Spain. The software giant also announced that it will make AIR available for the Google Android operating system later this year.

Mobile AIR will enable apps to utilize the features of the mobile device’s operating system, including multi-touch, gesture inputs, the accelerometer, geolocation, screen orientation and others.

Research in Motion’s BlackBerry, the Symbian OS, Palm’s WebOS and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile will all support Flash 10.1. Notably absent are Apple’s iPhone and iPad.
