Software Review: SiteAssist 3.0

By Nathan Segal

This is where you configure pages that aren't included in the top-level naviation. In this section you can add/delete pages, make duplicates, change the heirarchy and reposition the pages.

This part of the wizard allows you to review all the selections on your site. If necessary, you can back up in the wizard and make changes. If you're satisfied with the results, click on the Finish button. If you want SiteAssist to remember all of your selections and to use this layout for another site, click on the Create Site Type button at the bottom left.

You can add details about your site layout here and save it for other layouts.

Above is the finished layout as seen in Dreamweaver CS3 along with the files that you've generated on the right. Now you're ready to start adding your content. As mentioned earlier, if at any point you want to make global changes to your site, go to Modify: Modify SiteAssist Site. This will take you back into the wizard. Your options are: changing the site title and subtitle, modifying the template, style, navigation, color scheme, page type and adding a new page.

If you wish to customize the layouts even more, visit the SiteAssist Web page and click on the Solution Recipe link under the Buy Now box on the right of the page. This will take you to a set of video tutorials. Among other things, you'll learn how to customize your CSS templates for print and hand held devices. While the tutorials are useful, they may not be applicable for your purposes. In addition, knowledge of CSS is necessary. If you're not too familiar with the subject, I suggest you have a look at our CSS section on WebReference.

Overall, WebAssist is an excellent program. My only criticism is with the navigation. There only appears to be the one approach and nothing else, such as drop-down menus. Otherwise, it's an excellent program and will save you a lot of time. For more information on WebAssist, visit their Web Site.
